The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) took part in the 88th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (ASEAN COSTI-88) and its related meetings, held from October 20–22, 2025, at Jubilee Prestige Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok. Dr. Worawong Rukruengdet, NSTDA Deputy Executive Director, represented the agency at the Opening Ceremony.

ASEAN COSTI is a central platform for setting directions and monitoring the progress of regional cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI). It works in alignment with the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI) and is guided by regional action plans such as the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI). The framework strives to strengthen the region’s competitiveness and sustainable development through STI initiatives. COSTI serves as a mechanism for implementing joint projects, integrating policies, connecting research infrastructure and standards, and fostering cross-border collaboration among ASEAN member states, dialogue partners, and relevant stakeholders — with the goal of translating scientific and technological outcomes into practical benefits for the economy and society.

This year’s meeting emphasized support for the implementation of the new APASTI 2026–2035 framework, which aims to steer ASEAN toward becoming an “Innovative ASEAN.” The discussion highlighted the enhancement of joint research and innovation programs, development of human capital and expert mobility, integration of regional infrastructure and standards, and collaboration with industry and innovation-driven enterprises to boost technology commercialization and improve the quality of life for ASEAN citizens.

During the Subcommittee Meetings held on October 20–21, 2025, executives from Thailand’s national research centers — NECTEC, BIOTEC, MTEC, NANOTEC, and ENTEC— participated as national representatives in key technical areas, including biotechnology, electronics and information technology, energy, materials science, as well as research infrastructure and human resource development. These sessions served as a platform for knowledge sharing, the advancement of collaborative initiatives, and the strengthening of regional networks in science, technology, and innovation.

NSTDA reaffirms its commitment to supporting the new APASTI framework by leveraging its strengths in research, development, and technology transfer, and facilitating cooperation across public, private, and academic sectors. The agency is determined to promote STI as a driving force for sustainable socio-economic progress in Thailand and ASEAN at large.
