NSTDA in collaboration with 40 local and international partners held a press conference on 21 September 2022 to announce that Thailand will be hosting APEC BCG Economy Thailand 2022: Tech to Biz in Bangkok on 10-12 October 2022. Held under the theme “Synergizing STI to Sustainable Business”, the event will feature seminar, business pitching, trade exhibition and a site visit. The conference and exhibition will take place on 11-12 October at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, as well as on an online platform.

NSTDA President Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong stated that the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) has been declared the national agenda for sustainable development and as the host of APEC 2022, Thailand intends to share the BCG principle with APEC members and seek to develop regional collaboration around the BCG model to achieve global sustainability.

“As countries around the world are recovering from the pandemic, Thailand is using this opportunity to introduce the BCG model as a key driver of post-pandemic recovery and balanced development for the Asia-Pacific region,” said Prof. Sukit. APEC BCG Economy Thailand 2022: Tech to Biz aims to promote trade, investment and academic cooperation in support of sustainable development and innovation based on the BCG approach.

Scheduled to take place on 10-11 October, the 2-day conference & exhibition will be held in conjunction with Thailand Tech Show 2022 - NSTDA’s annual event showcasing inventions developed by academic and research institutes to potential investors, tech entrepreneurs, startups, SMEs and corporates.

Highlights of the event include “10 Technologies to Watch” presentation and investment pitching. The “10 Technologies to Watch” talk will reveal technology trends and future disruptions that businesses should pay close attention to and prepare for in the next 5-10 years, whereas the investment pitching will feature outstanding innovations looking for investors and industrial collaborators.

The seminar program will cover various aspects of BCG such as technologies for achieving carbon neutrality, S&T for sustainable food system and BCG for resilient and sustainable

community, with speakers from APEC economies sharing their countries’ perspectives and practices. APEC Economy Pavilion and IP Marketplace are exhibition that will showcase more than 200 technologies from APEC member economies that have potential to increase competitiveness and sustainability of businesses.

The site visit on 12 October will include the visit to selected projects and initiatives driven by the BCG model such as the Ratchaburi Model, the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) and Solar Cell Recycle.

Joining the press conference was Mr. Varit Namwong, Committee Member of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Vice Chairman of Industrial Promotion and Support Committee. He stated that FTI is pleased to co-host this important event with NSTDA and that this event will bring new ideas and introduce emerging trends to entrepreneurs for improving the competitiveness and sustainability of their businesses. Mr. Varit also highlighted past collaborative projects between FTI and NSTDA aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs, including a matching fund for SMEs, a standard for the circular economy, Prime Minister Awards, and Funding for Upskill.

Five innovations to be presented at the investment pitching were displayed at the press conference: 1) FOODe’ care: Cleaning and Sanitizing Agent for Food Processing, 2) Antifouling Film FleXARs, 3) Prolifera Patch the Collagen Booster, 4) ChelaPlant-Nano: Chelated Fertilizer, 5) Teat Sealant Containing Extracts of Caesalpinia sappan and Aloe vera for Mastitis Treatment in Dairy Cows.
