NSTDA in collaboration with Amano Enzyme Asia Pacific Company Limited organized the 1st Asia-Pacific Enzyme Technology Symposium on 12 October 2022. Held under the theme “Towards Sustainable Society Development”, the symposium took a close look at the potential of enzyme technology to address a hastily growing population and challenges in food, energy resources, and environment in the 21st century. The event was designed to connect the government, industry, and academia in the Asia-Pacific region to jointly pursue green chemistry using enzymes.

In the opening session, BIOTEC Executive Director Dr. Wonnop Visessanguan, Amano Enzyme President Mr. Motoyuki Amano, and Japanese Embassy representative Mr. Sano Shotaro delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of collaboration across sectors and among Asia-Pacific region in promoting enzyme technology, building partnerships, developing research and knowledge and disseminating results in order to improve the well-being of the society.

The program featured 12 invited speakers from 7 countries in the Asia-Pacific region Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, India, and Japan – giving presentations covering a wide range of topics, from bioenergy & chemical synthesis to sustainable food production and environmental assessment of enzyme. One special session was dedicated to Japanese front-line biotechnology and enzyme startups presenting their work on industrial bio-production by advanced cultivation and fermentation technology.
