Congratulations are in order for Thai student teams winning a total of six awards – four grand awards and two special awards - at the Virtual Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF 2021) held during 16-21 May 2021. The event was participated by 1,834 students - ninth through twelfth graders – from 64 countries.

Grand Award – First Award in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

Project title: EGFRNet: Transfer and Multi-task Learning Based on Graph Convolutional Network Toward Multi-target Drug Discovery Against Cancers for EGFR-Family Proteins

Student team: Natthakan Saengnil and Puri Virakarin from Kamnoetvidya Science Academy

 

Grand Award – Second Award in Chemistry

Project title: Development of Multi-sensor Paper-Based Test Kit for Heavy Metal Detection

Student team: Dawit Boonyakitnotai, Kijjakarn Namsawangrungrueng and Thiti Thaloengboonsiri from Kamnoetvidya Science Academy

 

Grand Award – Fourth Award in Animal Sciences

Project title: Development of Lady Beetle Cultivation for Pest Control

Student team: Naipaphon Kumhom, Thanakorn Silaphan and Warinyupa Ngamjarenwong from The Demonstration School of Khon Kaen University (Modindaeng)

 

Grand Award – Fourth Award in Biomedical and Health Sciences

Project title: Rapid Osteoporosis Risk Assessment: Non-invasive Detection Kit of Calcium, Phosphate and pH in Human Sweat

Student team: Korrawee Leelaadisorn, Krit Kasikpan and Patt Phurtivilai from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School

 

Special Award - First Life Science Award presented by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society

Special Award - Third Award presented by the American Chemical Society

Project title: Structurally Modified Chlorophyll a as a Natural-Based Pigment for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Student team: Sapol Maison, Settanan Suangburanakul and Suphawit Promkhot from Kamnoetvidya Science Academy

 

This year, a total of sixteen Thai students team participated in the Regeneron ISEF 2021 with the support of the Science Society of Thailand Under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, the National Research Council of Thailand, the National Science Museum and NSTDA.
