A virtual press conference was held on 5 May 2021 to launch the 2nd Kibo Robot Programming Challenge. Kibo Robot Programming Challenge aims at fostering STEM knowledge (science, technology, engineering and math) among young generations and preparing future workforce for the development of space industry. The press conference was joined by Dr. Chularat Tanprasert, NSTDA Executive Vice President, Mr. Ono Atsushi, Director of JAXA Bangkok Office and representatives of partner organizations.

Organized by NSTDA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and partner organizations, the contest is open to students, studying in schools or an undergraduate level in universities. Competing teams will create programs to operate Astrobee, a free-flying robot system created by NASA, to perform an assigned mission. The national winning team will be competing for the Asia-Pacific regional title in the Kibo Robot Programming Challenge 2021 to take place virtually this September.
