A student team from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Phitsanulok earned three awards at Korea Science & Engineering Fair 2019 (KSEF 2019) held between 17-22 October 2019 in Daejon, Korea. Making up the team are Mr. Piyawat Kaewyom, Mr. Pasin Amwong and Mr. Wichayut Koedchai, with Ms. Natpatsorn Laonetr and Ms. Duangjai Promma serving as team advisors.

In their project titled “Vehicle Density Estimation Using Machine Learning and Its Correlation to Air Concentration of Carbon Monoxide (CO): A Case Study in St. Nicolas School, Pitsanulok, Thailand”, the team developed an image processing algorithm to detect number of cars around a school area based on VDO stream captured by a drone and estimate the amount of CO produced. The result would be essential for making an improvement on the traffic to reduce air pollution. The project won three awards – a Silver Award, two special awards presented by International Avicenna Research Center and Indonesian Young Scientist Association.

The student team was the winner of Young Scientist Competition (YSC) - a national science contest co-organized by NSTDA and local partners to promote scientific curiosity among Thai youths. Winners of YSC were supported to enter international competitions.
