The transition toward a low-carbon society and a circular economy represents a strategic priority for sustainable national development and requires integrated collaboration among academia, government, and industry. The academic forum entitled “Closing the Loop for Society: Waste Utilization and Carbon Reduction for Sustainable Living” is organized under the TAIST–Science Tokyo framework, with the Sustainable Energy and Resources Engineering (SERE) Program serving as the main organizer.
This forum aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform that bridges advanced research, public policy, and industrial implementation. Through knowledge exchange among faculty members, experts, and researchers, the discussion addresses key themes including waste valorization, greenhouse gas emission reduction, life cycle assessment, and systematic approaches to resource circularity. The overarching goal is to promote practical strategies that support sustainable living and long-term societal resilience.
In addition, the event features research presentations by graduate students of TAIST–Science Tokyo, highlighting the role of graduate education in generating innovative knowledge, fostering technological advancement, and developing highly skilled human capital to support the transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable society.
