Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of crude Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) leaf extract on broiler growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and blood parameters. Ninety-six male Ross 308 broilers were divided into four groups, each with four replicates (six birds per replicate), receiving 0 (control), 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg of feed. The experimental treatments were provided to four groups as follows: one group received a basal diet containing 0.30 % antioxidant and toxin binder and 0.05 % anticoccidals, while the other three groups received the same basal diet supplemented with Kratom leaf extract at 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg of feed, respectively. Birds were provided with unrestricted access to food and water for 35 days. Results indicated that 100 mg/kg Kratom supplementation tended to increase final body weight (BW), average daily gain (ADG), and feed intake (ADFI). However, higher supplementation (150 mg/kg) reduced BW, ADG, and ADFI, these reductions were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The results showed that dietary treatments did not affect the feed conversion ratio (FCR). Additionally, there were no significant differences (P > 0.05) in meat quality, carcass traits, or blood parameters throughout the experimental period. In conclusion, the supplementation of Kratom leaf extract does not adversely affect broiler growth, carcass quality, meat quality, or blood parameters. The findings suggest that Kratom leaf supplementation for broiler production may become an alternative to antibiotics in broiler feed additives. © 2025
