On 11 August 2021, NSTDA President Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul and NEDO Chairman Dr. OIKAWA Hiroshi signed a Memorandum of Understanding between NSTDA and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan. The cooperation emphasizes the development and implementation of technologies and innovations of Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) for sustainable and eco-friendly economic growth based on the complementarity of Thailand’s BCG Model and Japan’s Green Growth Strategy.

NSTDA and NEDO have a long history of collaboration covering a vast array of technologies, ranging from manufacturing technology to medical device technology and biotechnology. This renewal of cooperation will open a new chapter for both sides to integrate their technological advancement and strengths to foster sustainable economic growth, while preserving the environment.

The MOU signing took place at the 5th Meeting of the Japan - Thailand High Level Joint Commission held via teleconference and co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The meeting agenda focused on economic cooperation to support sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in three key areas, namely: (1) collaboration between Thailand’s BCG Model and Japan’s Green Growth Strategy; (2) cooperation in trade, investment, industrial development and enhancement of business environment; and (3) cooperation for connectivity enhancement, development of the Mekong Sub-region, and healthcare field.
