Leading the NSTDA delegation in welcoming 10 APEC speakers from 6 APEC member economies (e.g., P.R. China, Japan, the Philippines, Viet Nam, New Zealand, and Thailand), representatives from 5 APEC member economies (e.g., Indonesia, Viet Nam, the Philippines, Peru, and Thailand), and 45 Thai participants were NSTDA President Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong and MTEC Executive Director Assoc. Thailand, like many other countries, faces considerable atmospheric corrosion issues. Addressing these challenges requires science, technology, and collaboration. Digital innovation, especially machine learning and deep learning models, is becoming essential tools for achieving effective solutions. If this tool is utilized among APEC members, it will be beneficial for sharing knowledge to effectively control corrosion resulting from climate change.

This workshop, as part of a project funded by the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology, and Innovation (APEC-PPSTI), serves as a mechanism to enhance capacity and knowledge in this field for representatives from APEC economies. It also provides a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences between researchers and experts, while promoting the establishment of networks for information sharing among stakeholders within APEC member economies.”

Assoc. Prof. Toemsak Srikhirin said “MTEC is delighted to welcome distinguished speakers and representatives from APEC economies who have come to exchange and share experiences, as well as initiate new collaborations. This workshop provides a great opportunity for all participants to use this platform to exchange ideas, experiences, and perspectives with the speakers regarding corrosion studies using AI and Machine Learning as predictive tools. Furthermore, it allows for discussions on broader future collaborations in other areas.”

The activities included lectures on corrosion rate assessment technology in atmospheric conditions combined with prediction techniques using artificial intelligence, brainstorming sessions to define research collaboration directions, presentations of research on the use of corrosion sensors, and future planning to drive the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. R. China, presented research outputs under the CAS-NSTDA Joint Research Program on the project entitled ‘In-situ corrosion monitoring approach based on bi-electrode EIS/EFM technique and machine learning model and its application in coastal atmospheric environment in China and Thailand’ through lectures and demonstrations of sensor applications along with the Machine Learning model
