What is this event?

This is your chance to meet representatives of leading European research and funding agencies. This one-day event sees presentations by representatives of leading research organizations and funding agencies from across Europe about the variety of fellowship and mobility schemes open to researchers in Thailand. The programme also includes hands-on advice from expert speakers and invited alumni of various European programmes. More details of the workshop announcement and program is attached.

 

Who should attend?

Doctoral candidates, post-doctoral researchers and established researchers of all disciplines and all nationalities. Representatives of university research offices and international relations offices are very welcome.

Information Session on the Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Individual Fellowships

-Supporting post-doctoral research in Europe -

What is the about?

The MSCA Individual Fellowships programme is an opportunity for researchers based in Thailand to work in research labs in Europe for up to two years.  The Fellowships are awarded to the most promising post-doctoral researchers of any nationality who want to benefit from advanced training in Europe. Almost any research field can be funded, and you choose the host organisation in Europe.

Who are the speakers?

 

Dr Nitsara Karoonuthaisiri is a Principle Researcher and the Director of Biosensing Technology Research Unit at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) Thailand.  She completed her PhD in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University in the United States, and returned to Thailand to build microarray capacity for both fundamental and applied research programs such as transcriptomic study of the economically important shrimp species and development of microarray-based diagnostics.  She won numerous awards such as "Outstanding Young Technologist of 2011" from the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, "2009 For Women in Science" Fellowship (UNESCO-L'Oreal Thailand), the 2010 Invention Award and the 2014 Research Award (National Research Council of Thailand).  She was featured in Nature News in an article "Homecoming Queen", named one of "21 women who make a difference" by "Thailand Tatler", selected as 1 of 9 "Working Women of the Year 2009" by "Phuying" Magazine, 1 0f 50 "Women Who Will Make a Change" by "A Day" Magazine.  In 2011-2013, she took a sabbatical at Queen's University Belfast (UK) under a  Marie Curie Fellowship from the Eu-FP7.  She was the funding co-chair of the Global Young Academy.  She was honored as Young Global Leader 2013 by WEF.

 

Dr Patchanita Thamyongkit received her Ph. D. in chemistry from Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen, Germany. After conducting postdoctoral research at North Carolina State University in USA for 3 years, she has become a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University since 2005. In addtion to receiving a Marie Curie International Incoming Research Fellowship (2009-2010), she has also been awarded the The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (the ICTP prize, 2013) and L’Oreal Thailand (L’Oreal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” fellowship, 2014). Currently, Patchanita Thamyongkit is an associate professor, and also serves Chulalongkorn University as a vice-director of Scientific and Technological Research Equipment Centre and a consultant of the Graduate School.

 

Dr Phanramphoei (Jibby) Namprachan Frantz received her PhD from Wayne State University of Medicine in microbial pathogenesis with the support of a Thai Government Scholarship. After receiving her PhD, she returned to Thailand to work as a research scientist at BIOTEC (www.biotec.or.th/en/) in the area of virology. In 2011, Dr Jibby received a grant for a Thailand Research Fund (TRF) grant to study the pathogenesis of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). Dr. Frantz and her team were the first group to succeed in creating an infectious cDNA clone of PEDV. She was chosen to present her work in developing the RGs of PEDV at the first ASEAN EURAXESS Science Slam competition in Singapore in 2013, and won the first prize in the competition.  With the support of EURAXESS, she established a research connection with Institut Pasteur in Paris, In 2014 Dr Frantz began work there with the support of a Franco-Thai Fellowship to develop a dengue vaccine.  Earlier this year Dr Frantz was successful in her application for a MSCA Individual Fellowship and will return to Institut Pasteur later this year.

 

This session will be led by Simon Grimley, Regional Representative for the European Commission-funded EURAXESS ASEAN – Researchers in Motion initiative. EURAXESS ASEAN is a network of European and international researchers, scientists, ad scholars looking to strengthen research collaboration between Europe and Southeast Asia.  This multidisciplinary network includes members at all stages of their careers.  It allows them to connect with each other and with Europe, ensuring that they can identify potential research partners as well as funding and mobility opportunities.
