At the 4th annual Thai-Israeli Science and Technology Cooperation Conference* on June 6-7, 2012, the team of Thai and Israeli researchers concluded to organize a follow-on “Thai-Israeli Workshop on Agro-technologies for Cassava” in Israel during 18-22 November, 2012.

 

On 22 November, 2012, at the cassava workshop, there were nine Thai delegates from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), and the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.  The Israel participants represented Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Technion Institute of Technology and IBM Research – Haifa.

 

The  Thai and Israel  scientists agreed to collaborative in the areas of:

o       Modern Technology for Crop Improvement
o       Precision Farming
o       Waste Treatment & Utilization
o       Agricultural Machinery for Cassava production
o       Environmental Sustainability


In March 2013, the Cluster and Program Management Office  (CPMO), NSTDA, will organize the 2nd Workshop on Precision Farming in Bangkok.  It is to be followed by a study tour to cassava plantations and cassava starch industrial sites.  Invitations will be extended to Israeli scientists who will be co-developers of a full research proposal.

 

The on-going TH-IL activities are as follows:
o Seed Conference (February 4-5, 2013)

o       Speaker: Dr. Yaakov (Kobi) Tadmor, Researcher, Agriculture Research Organization (ARO) – Nawe Ya’ar Research Center.
o       Event is organized by CPMO/ NSTDA.

 

o Workshop on Precision Farming (March 2013)

o       Speaker: Dr. Victor Alchanatis, Researcher, Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture Research Organization (ARO) – Volcani Center.
o       3 other Israeli speakers to be invited.
o       Event is organized by CPMO/ NSTDA.
